Birthday Weekend

That's right...I got a birthday weekend. That's what happens when you have a birthday on Friday and also so close to your mom's. My mom's birthday is the day before mine which always makes celebrating so much better since we can celebrate together. I was truly blessed to have such a great weekend.

Friday it snowed like crazy. No joke. I hate the snow. I knew the snow just couldn't hold off another weekend. Since I have swollen feet I had to wear flip flops outside all day and my feet were freezing. It was nice to finally get home after work and not have to go outside for a while. Anyways during this awesome snow storm I was able to go out to lunch with Emily and Elizabeth. Emily's birthday was earlier in November so we had fun celebrating. Later that night Derek took me out to the Olive Garden so I could enjoy their salad and breadsticks. Always hits the spot. Love their breadsticks. He was so wonderful and got me some really thoughtful gifts. He bought me tums, a back heating pad, Andes mints, and shoes. All things my pregnant body is in need of. I wish those shoes would've fit. So my feet haven't grown in length just in width with the swelling. Derek got me mens shoes in a half a size bigger than I would normally wear and thought that might do the trick. As we tried to fit my poor feet in to them I was laughing and crying all at the same time. ha It was funny and so, so sad. No other way to explain that situation. I am so grateful that he thought of getting me things I really need. The other part of my present comes this weekend. I am excited to tell you all about it.

Birthday Cake

Saturday started off with more snow and Derek was just loving all of this. He wanted to have a snowball fight with anyone who was willing. He started off the morning by building a snowman for the baby shower. It's me with our little baby girl on my hip. How cute are the two little snowmen together? I loved it. Of course, being the Southern California boy he is, he played in the snow in shorts and a t-shirt. Look at this smile. That's true joy! I would've been freezing.

Having fun in the snow

Me and baby snowman

Later in the afternoon I had such a great baby shower thrown by my mom and sisters. It was the perfect food for a snowy afternoon. We had soups, cornbread, chicken salad sandwiches, cupcakes and hot chocolate with whip cream. My mom found disposable hot chocolate cups with lids and they were a huge hit. The food was so good too. Thank you to everyone that came. It was so fun to see so many of you. I am sad I didn't get any pictures with my family that was there or a couple of my friends. This little girl truly got spoiled.

Baby Shower

Cupcakes

Love these girls. I met all of them through Ancestry.com and it was so nice to have them there. Truly blessed to have them as friends. It was fun to see Catalina with her baby belly. So precious.

Friends

These ladies are the best. I met them all on my mission in Arizona. I am so lucky to know them and still call them my friends. We all share such a special bond. I had such a fun time talking to them for a while afterwards with my friend Jackie who is also from Arizona. I guess there is just something magical about Arizona. All the best people come from there.

Baby Shower

Sunday was filled with more snow and Derek loving every minute of it. He couldn't resist pulling down some icicles. My cute little walrus. Later that afternoon we had a family dinner to celebrate mine and my mom's birthday. What a treat. My dad made a delicious Hungarian dish and Jamie and I made a rocking apple crisp for dessert. I was truly spoiled. My siblings and parents pitched in and got me a 1.5 hour massage and an hour pedicure. Friday cannot come soon enough. It'll be heavenly and exactly what I need.

Derek the Walrus

Thank you also to my family who sent cards. I am excited to figure out how to spend my birthday money. I have so many ideas that it'll be hard to choose. I felt so loved as I read the many sweet messages I in each card. Thank you for remembering to think of me. Also thank you to many of you for your texts, phone calls, and Facebook posts. I feel so lucky to have you as friends in my life. Life is just wonderful and Derek and I feel so blessed. Even though it snowed all weekend long I wouldn't have spent it any other way - surrounded by my family and friends.

    1. Yes it is and I just love it. Dream kitchen. One day I'll have a kitchen to cook in that has enough counter space that I don't have to use my table to prepare things. ha

Big News!

So this is big news for the Power family. I know many of you know a million other people who are currently pregnant but before you roll your eyes and skip over this post completely (ha), read on and hear a little bit about our story. I am currently 20 weeks pregnant. We just found out yesterday that we are expecting a baby girl. She is due to enter this world on January 3, 2012. So far she is healthy and growing strong. She is growing about a week ahead of schedule. Maybe she'll come early...like before the end of the year. Derek and I will celebrate our 3rd anniversary on the 16th of January...so not too long after our sweet girl is born. A little about us: Derek: One of the things I love most about Derek is how patiently he accepts trials in his life. He always has such a good atitude about what life has handed him. When he was 11 or 12 he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Then at age 19 he was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer.  He has now been in remission for 5

Please Tell Me...

Please tell me you guys have done this before because I just can't be the only one. This has happened twice to me now and I just feel ridiculous about it. I am shopping and Brooklyn is in her carseat sleeping and the diaper bag is in the main part of the cart. I am getting my groceries and just start putting stuff in around the carseat and diaper bag. I check out, get my bags, and head out to the car. I load the groceries in the car and then take Brooklyn out to put her in the car and I find stuff I haven't paid for. It slid underneath her carseat or the diaper bag and there it is. First time, it was pie crust and the second time it was shampoo. I try to check everywhere but something always seems to slip underneath the carseat and in my hurry I just miss it. I feel so dumb but at this point Brooklyn is buckled in and I am in a hurry to get her home. For those of you with small children you know how difficult it is to repack it all and get back in there when they could wa
