Maybe 26 wont be so bad...

So 25 was a rough year. I don't think it had anything to do with the age just a lot of difficult things. Some examples:
  • Throwing out my back. Still recovering from this.
  • Roaches invading our apartment
  • Being rejected from multiple job opporutnities
  • Loosing/changing friend relationships
Don't get my wrong. A lot of great things happened. I did get a job shortly after moving to Provo. Derek is getting a great education. Derek and I have made a lot of new friends and reconnected with others. I've gotten to see my family a lot more often. Many other things as well. I am grateful for the blessings and the challenges. These challenges have helped me to enjoy and understand the great things that have started to happen.

Two days before my birthday I got a phone call from where I work letting me know that I didn't get the PR Specialist position I had multiple interviews for. It was between me and one other girl and when I found out that she got it I was devastated. She was not as qualified as me in experience or in education. As I came to find out more about what happened over the next couple of days they didn't really know why they didn't choose me but they just didn't. They had no feedback to provide for improvement or anything. I let this bother me for a week. I replayed the interview in my mind and went over the writing sample too many times. I just didn't understand. Barely over a week later I was surprised to find out where my career would be taking me next.

I know it's a lame photo but every post needs a photo, right?

My boss asked to speak with me. Once we were in the conference room she told me the Events Manager at Ancestry.com had been let go and that I had been recommended to fill the open position. As long as I did well during the transition period the job would then be given to me permanently. Of course I said yes and started getting to work talking to everyone that has been involved with conferences and events trying to put all the pieces together. It has been stressful since the person let go is no longer at the company to train me, provide me with contact information for the societies, or give me the documents on her computer. Well fast forward to now I was offered the job a couple of days ago and received a nice pay raise. It couldn't have come at a better time since we are paying rent for two apartments for the month of December. Then in January I will be moving to the PR department and will continue to work from there with my new boss who is located in San Francisco.

I can't even tell you how excited, stressed, and overwhelmed I am but it's so worth it. It will be hard and busy but it'll take me to a lot of great places. For every event we have in 2012 I get to attend each one. Here are some of the places I get to head to this coming year:
Excited to see Derek's family while I am in town!

New York! I hope I get to see Kate while I am out there.

Paris! I am going to take Derek with me. Can't wait!
I can't even tell you how excited I am to go to Paris. Just saying. ;) It will be a lot of traveling starting in March and going through September but I can't wait. So thankful to have bosses who have believed in me and helped me get to where I am now. I am also so grateful for a loving husband who supports me throughout the excitement and the struggles. Also, I have great support from all my family members, no matter where they are. Derek and I are so blessed.

P.S. Sorry this post was long but I really wanted to express the miracles and blessings I am experiencing on a daily basis. Thanks!

Big News!

So this is big news for the Power family. I know many of you know a million other people who are currently pregnant but before you roll your eyes and skip over this post completely (ha), read on and hear a little bit about our story. I am currently 20 weeks pregnant. We just found out yesterday that we are expecting a baby girl. She is due to enter this world on January 3, 2012. So far she is healthy and growing strong. She is growing about a week ahead of schedule. Maybe she'll come early...like before the end of the year. Derek and I will celebrate our 3rd anniversary on the 16th of January...so not too long after our sweet girl is born. A little about us: Derek: One of the things I love most about Derek is how patiently he accepts trials in his life. He always has such a good atitude about what life has handed him. When he was 11 or 12 he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Then at age 19 he was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer.  He has now been in remission for 5

Please Tell Me...

Please tell me you guys have done this before because I just can't be the only one. This has happened twice to me now and I just feel ridiculous about it. I am shopping and Brooklyn is in her carseat sleeping and the diaper bag is in the main part of the cart. I am getting my groceries and just start putting stuff in around the carseat and diaper bag. I check out, get my bags, and head out to the car. I load the groceries in the car and then take Brooklyn out to put her in the car and I find stuff I haven't paid for. It slid underneath her carseat or the diaper bag and there it is. First time, it was pie crust and the second time it was shampoo. I try to check everywhere but something always seems to slip underneath the carseat and in my hurry I just miss it. I feel so dumb but at this point Brooklyn is buckled in and I am in a hurry to get her home. For those of you with small children you know how difficult it is to repack it all and get back in there when they could wa
