I Got Crafty

Today was such a beautiful day.  The weather was just perfect and it started to remind me of fall weather in California.  It's interesting, as soon as Utah hit September the weather decided to get wonderful and more fallish.  I am loving it.

So with this nice weather we decided to head out to the local farmer's market and take a ride on the scooter.  It was a beautiful way to start our Saturday.  Being at the Farmer's Market made me get in the mood of fall, Halloween, and craftiness. This sudden mood brought on trips to Micheal's and Walmart to find some of the basic things I needed to get started.  I was determined to make all my decorations this year.  Pinterest has made me desire to be more crafty when I see all the amazing things other people can do. Now that I've done my first project I can't wait to do more.

So with this feeling I made some candle holders/decorations and an Autumn Wreath.  I think they turned out great.  Keep in mind this is my first time attempting to be crafty not on a computer.  It was great to let my creative energy be free...if that is even a real thing.  I think sometimes we all need to let our creative energy out.  At the end you feel so accomplished.  So check them out!  I can't wait to see pictures of how everyone else is decorating their home for the upcoming holiday season.

I thought my candy corn candle holder idea was genius!

I love the way this turned out. It was so much cheaper than buying a pre-made wreath.

  1. Laura I love them all! So creative. Lately I have been in the mood too but I am trying to contain my "creative energy" until I am no longer a student and settled. Then I plan to go on a creating-crafty-mania! :) Btw the candy corn candle holder....could that be any cuter?!! I think not :)

Big News!

So this is big news for the Power family. I know many of you know a million other people who are currently pregnant but before you roll your eyes and skip over this post completely (ha), read on and hear a little bit about our story. I am currently 20 weeks pregnant. We just found out yesterday that we are expecting a baby girl. She is due to enter this world on January 3, 2012. So far she is healthy and growing strong. She is growing about a week ahead of schedule. Maybe she'll come early...like before the end of the year. Derek and I will celebrate our 3rd anniversary on the 16th of January...so not too long after our sweet girl is born. A little about us: Derek: One of the things I love most about Derek is how patiently he accepts trials in his life. He always has such a good atitude about what life has handed him. When he was 11 or 12 he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Then at age 19 he was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer.  He has now been in remission for 5 ...

Tot School: Week 1

A couple of weeks ago I was talking to some of my friends about starting some kind of regular class where we can get our kids together once a week to learn and play. As an added bonus, we all get to chat as well. That night I started researching different activities that are good for kids ages 18 months-3 years. I put together an 8 week schedule that will include different themes each week so that our children can be exposed to many different things. I couldn't wait to get started. I e-mailed my friends my ideas/schedule and once I knew who could participate I went shopping to pick up supplies. Everything I have needed so far I found at the Dollar Tree and Micheal's. Today was our first class and it was a lot of fun. Our theme this week was animals. As everyone arrived I let them pick out a folder and decorate it. I also took a picture with the kids and their moms. We started by reading a couple of animal books I had on hand. The kids loved them because they were flap books a...
