About

Simply put: We are The Power Family.  As of now, it consists of me and my husband Derek. Derek and I met serving our missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2008. We were both placed in El Paso for a couple of months and that's where we became friends...well not at first, but eventually. ha I should tell you some of the rude things this man used to say to me. My goodness. Anyways we remained friends after our missions and started to date.

We were engaged on September 2, 2009 on the beach in Malibu, CA. It was the perfect proposal for me. Below is a picture of our engagement photos. We had to stay true to our love for the beach by having our pictures taken at Huntington Beach. Thank you to my awesome photographer.

We got married January 16, 2010 in the Salt Lake City Temple. It was the coldest day that January. Not kidding. As I mentioned above my love for beaches I should mention my hate for cold weather. The only good thing about cold weather is the bugs die. Seriously. Anyways this is one of my favorite photos from our wedding day. It might be because you can't see how red my nose was after a couple hours of photos...

We are now currently living in Provo, Utah, one of the many places we have lived in just a short couple of years. Derek is attending BYU and will graduate in April 2013 as a Mechanical Engineer. He is currently working at Northrup Grumman and we are excited to see where life takes us shortly. I graduated from BYU-Idaho in 2010 and am currently working at Ancestry.com as their Event Planner. I love it. You can find out more about that in the travel section. There we are below in Hawaii - Derek's home away from home. So far we are pretty normal and just having fun enjoying one another's company.

We look forward to what the future brings and are glad to share it with each other.

On January 3, 2013 we added a sweet little girl to our family named Brooklyn Elise. She brings us so much joy and has already taught us so much in a short amount of time. We are blessed to have this little miracle in our life.

  2. I'm really not sure why I didn't know that Derek was getting his degree in Mechanical Engineering... however, given that enlightenment, I cannot stress the following enough....

YOU MUST COME TO NEW MEXICO AND BE MY BEST FRIEND!!

Our other engineer friends down here love working for Sandia National Labs and you cannot beat the benefits! Just something to think about.

    I miss you!

It's a good reminder to not only seek Him this time of year but thr

Big News!

So this is big news for the Power family. I know many of you know a million other people who are currently pregnant but before you roll your eyes and skip over this post completely (ha), read on and hear a little bit about our story. I am currently 20 weeks pregnant. We just found out yesterday that we are expecting a baby girl. She is due to enter this world on January 3, 2012. So far she is healthy and growing strong. She is growing about a week ahead of schedule. Maybe she'll come early...like before the end of the year. Derek and I will celebrate our 3rd anniversary on the 16th of January...so not too long after our sweet girl is born. A little about us: Derek: One of the things I love most about Derek is how patiently he accepts trials in his life. He always has such a good atitude about what life has handed him. When he was 11 or 12 he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Then at age 19 he was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer.  He has now been in remission for 5

Please Tell Me...

Please tell me you guys have done this before because I just can't be the only one. This has happened twice to me now and I just feel ridiculous about it. I am shopping and Brooklyn is in her carseat sleeping and the diaper bag is in the main part of the cart. I am getting my groceries and just start putting stuff in around the carseat and diaper bag. I check out, get my bags, and head out to the car. I load the groceries in the car and then take Brooklyn out to put her in the car and I find stuff I haven't paid for. It slid underneath her carseat or the diaper bag and there it is. First time, it was pie crust and the second time it was shampoo. I try to check everywhere but something always seems to slip underneath the carseat and in my hurry I just miss it. I feel so dumb but at this point Brooklyn is buckled in and I am in a hurry to get her home. For those of you with small children you know how difficult it is to repack it all and get back in there when they could wa
